Adult Dyslexia Assessment

Dyslexia is a Specific Learning Difference (SpLD) that primarily affects the way people process, store and retrieve information and is recognised as a disability under the Equalities Act 2010.

The Equalities Act places a duty of care on the employer to ‘make reasonable adjustments’ to a working environment so as not to disadvantage a person with a disability. It is estimated that approximately 10% of the population are dyslexic, which translates to around 2.5 million people of working age, many of whom are undiagnosed.

Dyslexia is often thought of in simplistic terms as having difficulty in reading and writing, however, dyslexia is more than this, and involves a weakness in short term memory, information processing, perceptual, partial and motor skills; which can manifest in difficulties recalling information, personal organisation and timekeeping.

It’s not all bad news as many people who are dyslexic have strengths in other areas, such as: creativity, lateral thinking, problem solving or visual and spatial thinking.
